Trainable method of parametric shape description

چکیده
Shape models have been used widely to achieve robust interpretation of complex images. They allow image evidence to be organized into plausible interpretations which can then be verified”“. We are interested in the class of problems where shapes are variable. Important examples are the inspection of complex manufactured assemblies where relative motion between subparts is possible. and medical image interpretation where biological variation is present. In such applications it is Senerally the case that some aspects of shape arc Invariant whilst others are subject to constrained variability. The problem of adequately modelling such behaviour in ;I general way has not been solved. We have previously described a method of shape representation based on modetling the statistical distributions of chord lengths between control points placed in a consistent manner on each shape in a training set “.I ‘. .I‘he objective\ of the work we describe here were to significantly develop this basic idea to automatically:

A Trainable Method of Parametric Shape Description
We have developed a trainable method of shape representation which can automatically capture the invariant properties of a class of shapes and provide a compact parametric description of variability. We have applied the method to a family of flexible ribbons (worms) and to heart shapes in echocardiograms. We show that in both cases a natural parameterisation of shape results.

متن کاملThe Effects of Shape Parameterization on the Efficiency of Evolutionary Design Optimization for Viscous Transonic Airfoils
The effect of airfoil shape parameterization on optimum design and its influence on the convergence of the evolutionary optimization process is presented. Three popular airfoil parametric methods including PARSEC, Sobieczky and B-Spline (Bezier curve) are studied and their efficiency and results are compared with those of a new method. The new method takes into consideration the characteristics...
متن کاملDeformable Shape Detection and Description via Model-Based Region
A method for deformable shape detection and recognition is described. Deformable shape templates are used to partition the image into a globally consistent interpretation, determined in part by the minimum description length principle. Statistical shape models enforce the prior probabilities on global, parametric deformations for each object class. Once trained, the system autonomously segments...
متن کاملParametric geons: a discrete set of shapes with parameterized attributes
We propose parametric geons as a volumetric description of object components for qualitative object recognition. Parametric geons are seven qualitative shape types deened by parameterized equations which control the size and degree of tapering and bending. The models provide global shape constraints which make model recovery procedures robust against noise and minor variations in object shape. ...
